At the English Language Club I am keen to use social networking sites and web 2.0< to create content that can enable teacher and self motivated students to teach and learn English.
I see a great opportunity in Facebook as a platform for this type of content. The advantage of creating content for existing sites as opposed to creating my own site is that people are already on Facebook. It is familiar territory, so people are more comfortable going there and some may stumble upon it by chance who would never have found a separate site. It is early days for my organization but the first app is up and running on facebook and is a simple placement test. It is free to use can be used by anyone in the world.
As it is within facebook I wanted the emphasis to be on fun as opposed to accuracy so it is more like a game than a test/exam. It is just 40 questions so it is not meant to be very accurate but just a fun way to get a rough idea of your level.
At the end of the test it gives an approximation of the users score converted to IELTS, ALTES and CEF levels.
So let me know what you think of it and please pass it on to your students. I know it is quite basic but as a free test I don't think there is much else out there. It is still a work in progress so I am always looking to improve it.
